On 4th of July at the information center of Kola nuclear plant, a round table with participants from the environmental organization GAIA, leaders of the Kola nuclear plant trade union and administrative officer of Murmansk public union for nuclear energy safety, took place. The main topic of the round table was the ‘Concept of decommissioning of old nuclear reactors’ which was prepared and presented by the public environmental organizations within the international DecomAtom project.
The social component that concerns the employees of the nuclear plant was discussed. At the closing of the discussion, workers and leaders of Kola nuclear plant trade union made remarks, suggestions and comments on the concept that the environmental organizations made.
It was noted that the process of decommissioning of old nuclear reactors would have different social consequences, regarding Leningrad nuclear plant and Kola nuclear plant, and it is necessary to take this into consideration and to realize that this will take a toll not only on the employyes but also other indirectly linked to the plant, like doctors, teachers and others which are not working in the plant. This would be particularly obvious in the small towns, like Polarnie zori, where the nuclear plant is major enterprise.
